The Goolons are an ancient alien race from the distant planet known as Terasifft (Tera-sif-th). The small swampy planet, originally discovered by Dr Richard Murdock in the 1970s, is about the size of Earths Moon. Little is known about the planet, but it is thought to have an atmosphere similar to our own. The Goolons are born in large litters containing as many as 30 young. Since an infection almost wiped out the race several thousand years ago, mutations have altered the Goolons appearance considerably. Young are now born with no lower extremities, or at the most with two badly deformed stumps, making walking impossible. They are forced to haul their huge torso around with only their arms. For the first quarter of a Goolons life they can only move by dragging themselves with their hugely powerful arms. After this first ‘phase’, all male Goolons are fitted with a ’shell’ Their shell is actually an advanced mechanical casing, capable of flight and armed with a number of weapons. The Goolon military who run the planet assign all capable males one of selection of different ’shells’, which they will use for the remainder of their lives. Each shell contains an advanced life support system which pumps an unknown chemical through the Goolons body. This chemical heightens the creatures awareness and reaction time. The Goolon shell is constructed using technology far in advance of our own. A unique metal alloy, several times stronger than anything currently available on Earth is used to assemble the shells, making them almost invulnerable to damage. The shells allow Goolon warriors to fly and move at huge speeds through space. They can be fitted with retractable arms and legs, allowing the creatures to walk and run on a planets surface. Fitted with an advanced life support system, the shells can literally revive their occupant from the dead in battle. When injured the Goolon can go into a state of hibernation, almost completely shutting down its body and brain functions, and allowing itself to heal. A Goolon can be ‘dead’ for as much as 72 hours, and still be revived without any ill effects. They heal at an incredible rate and can re-grow body parts at will. The first shells were created by ancestors of the current generation of Goolons, to allow the mutated race to walk an perform simple tasks. Quickly these machines were developed into weaponry and a new generation of War hungry Goolons followed. Early versions of the Goolons ’shell’ were constructed using a material known as ‘Kronofid’ found only on Terasifft, similar to wood but with a far higher tensile strength. Over several thousand years the Goolons shells have been re-designed and developed into the current, heavily armored, battle orientated machines.
