Darrel
Hmmmmm......Darrel grew up in Florida on an interest in drawing. He started his career as early as 14 years old creating one panel gag cartoons on such magazines as the National Enquirer, Boy's Life and Saturday Evening Post. He went to college to learn the marketing side of the business, starting at a local junior college, then onward to Valdosta State College in Georgia and wraps it up at Florida State University. Darrel went on to Walt Disney World and worked on the Space Mountain roller coaster ride to make money. He heard about the California Institute of the Arts and he attended it in California. The experience led him to become a full-time artist and he started into the business in working for visual development on principal character and object designs for a theme park boat ride in Oita, Japan for Landmark Entertainment Group. His first work as an animation artist (non-freelance as he was a freelance character and prop designer.) started with Klasky Csupo Animation with the Rugrats pilot episode as a character designer and later to Project X Production on Peter Pan & The Pirates. He worked as a freelancer for many of the major animation studios including Walt Disney Television Animation (mostly on Darkwing Duck and did at least one TaleSpin episode as a prop designer). He has worked on various shows since leaving Disney and was a character designer on such shows as The Tick, X-Men, Super Dave, Little Shop of Horrors and Road Rovers among them. He also worked with many of the toy and video game industry clients with various projects. He got involved on the World Wide Web and worked with Balloon Dog Studios on character designs and created his own company Darrel Bowen Media. That company provides various television show services including storyboard, clean-up, animation, character/prop design and show development. He currently lives in Woodland Hills, California and was the lead model supervisor for the Warner Bros cartoon Static Shock. Recent positions included character/prop designer on the CGI Zula Patrol show for PBS and one of the main designers for the Scooby Doo videos.
