These nasty little vermin are a space explorer's nightmare. They can eat anything even vaguely organic, even plastic and rubber. They break down food with a mild acid secreted from their appendage. Once the food is gone, they become cannibalistic, with the victor growing into one huge mega-slug.
The only restriction on their growth is the availability of food. Massive multi-ton slugs have been reportedly been found in food transports. The one shown here is a healthy twenty pound adult, which is their average size.
They reproduce by laying radiation and vacuum resistant limpet eggs, or through bifurcation: Cut a piece off, and that piece will grow into a new baby slug. Only one slug is needed to reproduce.
The most effective weapons against them are fire and several specific toxic salts. Exposing them to vacuum seems to work, but they tend to explode into a gooey mess that spreads their limpet eggs everywhere, ultimately compounding the problem.
