I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Humpty Dumpty, Glinda the Good Witch, the Buddha, the Exorcist are also not the best things to submit to a character design community. The fact that they were accepted doesn't really change that. The FAQ and manifesto both refer to Moji submissions as characters, not as illustrations. I don't really see a lot of ambiguity, here.

I see, so you're just explaining the way things are to me. Frankly, if that's the case, I would think you'd have a better interpretation of the purpose of Mojizu. If you're going to throw around "supposed-to"s and "don't do that"s I would suggest you demonstrate your knowledge of the "rules" more clearly. Take another look around here - you'll find illustrations of Humpty Dumpty, Glinda the Good Witch, the Buddha, the Exorcist.... All of them are each artist's interpretation of a character created by someone else, or an illustration from a text. Perfectly valid Moji. If you're going to argue protocol, perhaps you should read the manifesto or the FAQ's. Once again, I'm sorry if you're offended by my character. You have the right to your feellings. You don't, however, have the right to tell me what I can and cannot do.

By that logic, every film critic would also have to be a director, and every music reviewer a musician. But the fact is, we're not criticizing your art. We're criticizing your choice of uploading an illustration where you're supposed to be creating a character.

I believe the definition of "Illustration" is an image that is used to augment or clarify a story. Elda is an illustration. I think what is tasteless is criticizing someone's work and showing none of your own.

Huh?

Don't post a character to a community if it belongs to someone else. It's well...tasteless.

Elda is about facing down a bully, about knowing what your own worth is and not being afraid to ask for what you deserve. At the time, a friend owed me money for some design work I did for him. After months of waiting, I whipped up little Elda and sent it to him. I had his check in the mail the same week.

I don't think that GreatLemur said he was offended. He just didn't think you should post a character that was created by someone else to a character creation board. In any case, what's the character about? I mean, if you are presenting her as your creation then what does she mean to you?

I'm really sorry you're offended by this character, GreatLemur.

If your illustration is of a character created by someone else, it's probably not the best thing to submit to a character design community. If you expect people to read a sixty-year-old motivational book before they judge the character, it's probably not the best thing to submit to a character-rating site. I'm not trying to pick on you, here. This just seems like a bad idea on a number of different levels.

I love it!

Just did a little poking around, the chapter you want to read is called "the Child who Mastered a Man". The book was written in 1947. Read it - then get back to me.

Illustration from a story in "Think and Grow Rich", by Napoleon Hill. I didn't write it... take it however you want....

Agreed.

I'm afraid I don't really know how to take this.
