Im currently building up a big range of characters / working on my designs. Hoping to earn a living doing character design / just get my characters noticed basicly. Ive recently fallen in love with the simple style of character design. love retro characters from arcade days: Mario, Donkey Kong, Bomberman, etc. i have a love for character design now and am going to do my best to get my designs noticed / sold ( when there fully done).

What's Your Measure of Success?

Just going 4 the thing that you want to do in life, and dont settle for less.

Do You Consider Yourself a True Artist?
I guess so... drawing original characters has to be artistic. Although Im not a true artist in the sense of developed tho, im young and still have alot to learn in character design

What Do You Dream to Do With Your Characters?
My dream is to design characters for a living ( which i know im capable of, i wont to waste time doing sum crumby job that wont get me anywhere in terms of what i want to do, im either doing a job in character art or none at all...) and also for my characters/ designs to be widely noticed / i dont want to be famous one bit but i would love for my simple style designs to be seen around the world ( in japan would be awsum! hope that doesnt sound too farfetched) and most of all for people to enjoy looking at my characters.

hi themon, i know what ur sayong. i only wrote some stuff as basic advice, nothing solid ( im only a begginner myself) a long long way to learn, stuff i drew in my sketchbook yesterday and thought was amazing, is really something.. is know nothing, i can look back on alot a day after an say 'that just doesnt look very good' so a big cross gos through the middle, lol ( ive never been one 4 keeping work u hate, even in a sketchbook, even tho they say u shud keep it. And i no wt u mean bout 'rules', making your work stand out is what will make you, not doing carbon copies of basic characters millions of people can do ( ur work has 2 stand out). but u do need 2 know a few basic principles be4 u can tackle ur own creations ( i keep kiddin myself i know enough when i dont tbh, so i need to study more i guess ( sigh) oh well. thanx 4 comment.

thx for adoption, mister. what i want to say to you is, maybe, uselessssss or sth, but i`ll write it anyway: what you wrote is few basic advices - it`s not even rules - and i just want to say, that they are helpful, but it`s just one of many ways to achive victory :) i`ll say - best way is to take this rules and piss on them and just do what You want in exact moment. there is one danger when you have rules - if too many people cares about it you`ll see big pile of similiar artworks. ufff... my fingers hurts:) best wishes. No prob missleo, i really like your design style, your characters are cool and 'aargh' your andaa suit is really unique. Was really suprised last night in the wee hours i was surfing some graffiti sites and i saw one of the character designs from this site on a sticker in the street in detroit with graffiti. pretty cool, was the death guy whos white with the black tie and black hat. and aargh ok then ill start off a new topic with tips i find of character design. i have loadza books and info, im just not too sure many people look at the forums by the look of it, bt il try. cheers guys

HEY ALL, I dont really know if anyones going to care what i say as im just some 18 year old, and i have no Mojis uploaded ( scanner isnt working + ive got to master photoshop abit to get my designs the step further) but i thought it would be cool if i left some character design tips ive picked up in book & off people. Most of u prob know this stuff but if ur a newbie you may find some of these tips helpful. ( im not trying to sound full of myself, these r tips ive 'picked up' so far, just sharing them, sorry if you know them all). CHARACTER DESIGN TIPS: 1) Make your designs as curvy as possible, it adds appeal. 2) Create a 'theme' with your characters by taking an element of your design and repeating it numerous times. 3) Creating original visuals for your character is whats going 2 make the initial impact on the audience. 4) 'Cute' characters dont have to have the bog standard cute look to them, you can make a character appealing by going for; 'funny wierd'. 5) Make sure your character has a strong 'silhouette' 6) "You can only draw what you know" is an interesting thing ive heard. Basiclly what ive learned from it is that taking some time out to look at and study the more complex costume/ character designs out there- ( even if u prefer simple character art, like i do) and how there linked together is very helpful and gives you more capability to naturally expand on your own designs. what you observe with diffrent designs stores in your head like a computer ( i know that sounds retarded but its just a metaphor) and you will have a much greater design 'pallette' in your brain which you can utilize and naturally incorperate in you own designs ( sorry guys that 'pallette' sounds equally retarded its the only way i can put it). Ive recently been taking time out to study complicated designs on the internet and i have already noticed a huge diffrence with my characters in the sense that they are more unique in design as ive studied lots of
